Disto: /* God Related Bonuses */

This page contains an overview of all the joinable deities on Discworld. Each God has a short description stating his or her strong and weak point and which alignment they require. We will NOT give a rating to the different Gods. This is always subjective and we think you should make up you own mind, based on the alignment, the rituals granted or role-playing possibilities.

General Info
How to join the Priests Guild, can be found in the newbie section. But first you should carefully consider which God you want to serve. Do you feel like fighting? Maybe you want to help people? Fond of fine clothes? All these things might influence your choice.

To make the decision a little easier, here's a list of factors that might influence your choice of a Supreme Being to Worship.

God Related Bonuses
Each God provides the opportunity to get an bonus in performing rituals, under special circumstances. These are:
* Pishe: when outside in the rain, snow, or sleet
* Gapp: when wearing enough (either three, or it varies) clothes of the right fashion ("<code>finger gapp</code>")
* Gufnork: when carrying 7 fluffy items
* Sandelfon: when indoors
* Fish: when in the water
* Hat: when in the company of 4 other priests, or when at any high altar
* Sek: when in combat
* All Gods: shortly after having prayed, buried a corpse using the ritual bury command, or putting priest things in your own god's newbie coffer. Duration appears to be defined by Faith.Ritual.Special bonus.
* All Gods: when at your own high altar
* All Gods: when close to a temple of your God

Guild Point Usage, and Modifiers
Quite recently, some priests have noticed a fluctuation in guild points used by rituals. Apparently some negative modifiers can increase the amount of guild points needed to perform a ritual. They also increase the difficulty of the ritual, making it harder to perform and less effective if it does succeed. These modifiers are
* nearly out of alignment (You can barely feel the presence of ...)
* far from a temple of your God (You are far away from holy ground)
* a state of drunkenness or being poisoned
* performing a ritual from a faith rod
* at another deity's high altar (unless you're a Hattian)
* far from the eyes of any God (seems to apply at the Dysk, at witches and wizards guild areas, and in player shops owned by witches and wizards)
* you sense that the gods have averted their eyes from this place (at the Witches' Guild in Bad Ass, seems to be a very large modifier <!--I actually failed a res, and it took 315 gp! D: -->)
* darkness ("quite dark here") for rituals that require the "sight" power, as described by the "meditate" command: cool, demoralise, detect alignment, detect magic, divine guard, divine sentinel, find corpse, haunting, holy sanctuary, raise dead pet, relief, see alignment, see consecration, warm
** Seems to have no effect on: agoraphobia, bless, chant, clarify, devout inquisition, divine hand, dust devil, endless halls, far sight, feedback, fumble, light, longsight, minor shield, major shield, parch, remember place, soothing rain, sotto voce, sparkling shelter, splash, tongues, totem
* <adjective> clothing is holy--only for mend. Applies when you're performing mend on an item of clothing that's currently in fashion.
* <adjective> clothing is an abomination unto Gapp--only for mend. Applies when you're performing mend on an item of clothing that's currently extremely out of fashion (presumably, the exact opposite of whatever's in fashion: if black clothing is in, white is out, but other colours give no message).

Specific God Information
* Pishe (as good as you can get - barely good)
* Gufnork (quite good - neutral)
* Gapp (quite good - neutral)
* Sandelfon (barely good - barely evil)
* Fish (neutral - evil)
* Hat (neutral - quite evil)
* Sek (barely evil - as evil as you can get)

Places of interest
Each deity has high altars and shops in a different set of locations (though each have high altars in Ankh-Morpork, Djelibeybi, and the red tower in Bes Pelargic (on the far east side of town, a bit north off the river)). If you already know which deity you'd like to worship, this will affect which starting areas will be easiest for you.
*Ankh-Morpork: has the Temple of Small Gods and a high altar for every deity--most on the Street of Small Gods, the Pishe one in the Apothecary Gardens and the Fish one near the docks, just south of the river on the very west side of the city.
*Bes Pelargic: has high altars for every deity in the red tower--near the imperial palace, just north of the river on the very east side of the city. There's also a Fish high altar, shop and advancement room in the shipwreck in Tuna Bay. The wandering charm peddler on Garden Walk sells symbols, prayer books, beads, amulets, and relics (of, it seems, whichever deity you worship).
*Djelibeybi: has high altars for every deity, all northwest of the bazaar.
*Genua: Has high altars for Hat (east side of the city, northwest corner of the docks) and Gapp (south part of the city, Darling Road).
*The Ramtops: Has a high altar for Pishe, north of Lancre Town, south of Bad Ass, east of Mad Stoat, and very slightly west of the rugby pitch.
*Ohulan Cutash: Has high altars for Gufnork and Sek in the south part of town, on Sinner's Walk.
*Sto Lat: Has a high altar and instructor for Pishe in the park, somewhat hidden.
*Temple of Cool: Has a Gapp shrine (no high altar) and a Gapp shop.
Infuses a weapon with holy radiance.

__TOC__

Description
The targeted weapon is temporarily filled with the power of your God, and does extra damage to those it is used against. The holy radiance of the item fries and scorches those it hits. Ignores magical impact shields and the stone skin spell, and can help remove Witch's bug shields. It also appears to ignore armour.

There are varying intensities of holy radiance, with brighter light being much harder on lightweight weapons. Known intensities in order of increasing power are Faint, Flickering, Pale, Steady, Bright, Intense and Incandescent. Preliminary research suggests only fi.ri.of.ta effects radiance intensity.

Damage done is shown in a system identical to normal combat with the following powers; Touch, Gently Scorch, Scorch, Fry, Char, painful Burn, Roast, Cremate, Incinerate (in roughly this order).

Each deity has different shades of holy radiance.
* Pishe: Lilac, Violet, Lavender
* Gufnork: Jade, Chartreuse, Emerald
* Gapp: ???
* Sandelfon: Silver, Ash Grey
* Fish: Azure, Cerulean, Sapphire
* Hat: Tangerine, Orange
* Sek: Crimson, Ruby, Vermillion

If you look at a weapon with the ritual on it, it will say something like "It is glowing with bright vermillion holy light, flowing across it slowly." The last part of the description indicates how close the ritual is to expiring; the faster the light, the less time remaining, and when it has almost run out it the light will be in rapid waves.

Whilst under the effect of the ritual, not all attacks will be holy, there will be a number of standard attacks as well. The proportion is rumoured to be related to the performers fa.ri.sp bonus.

The holy light will disappear if the weapon leaves the performer's inventory.

The ritual is ineffective against stone based life forms.
Holy Weapon fills your weapon with holy might. This allows you to better smite your enemies for a period of time, as the weapon burns and scorches them. A holy symbol consecrated to your deity is required in order to perform this ritual.

It is easier to perform Holy Weapon on heavy weapons. After all, your god's flaming sacred weapon should be ostentatious and enormous.
> perform holy weapon on baton

Each deity has different shades of holy radiance.
* Pishe: Lilac, Violet, Lavender
* Gufnork: Jade, Chartreuse, Emerald
* Gapp: ???
* Sandelfon: Silver, Ash Grey
* Fish: Azure, Cerulean, Sapphire
* Hat: Tangerine, Orange
* Sek: Crimson, Ruby, Vermillion

Example
> perform holy weapon on baton
You sing Fish's battle psalm.
You call upon Fish to fill your weapon with holy might.
This ritual fills the heart of the target with panic, and causes it to run from the room in a random direction (the direction appears to only be random as far as the player is concerned, all NPCs in a room will run in the same direction). This is still the best way to split up NPCs in order to make combat easier, however it will not work on all grouped npcs as some will follow the target.
There is a possibility that the npc will "notice your attempt at frightening it" and attack you.
When Far Sight is performed on an item that has a location stored in it via the Remember Place ritual, it will give the priest a vision of that location. ::Several groups of people can be seen walking past, quite energetically. Either this neighbourhood is near one of the busier areas of the city, or people are just in a hurry to get away.
Prayer beads

Disto: Can perform Minor shield and Dark Sight etc without symbol or amulet but with a weak prayer beads therefore I believe the level was wrongly too high for replacement.

Purpose
Prayer beads, once charged sufficiently, can be used in rituals instead of holy amulets, holy symbols and holy relics, reducing burden, inventory clutter and complication in performing rituals (you only have to have your beads to hand, not a whole host of holy components). Note that while beads must be held in order to charge them, they do not need to be held while performing rituals that require them - although they must be in your immediately accessible inventory (i.e. not inside a container).

Cost
AM$50 from temple shops.

Also Found
Carried by no-one, although occasionally they can be found (sometimes even ready charged) in player shops. Beware of consecrating prayer beads to another god if they are not newly acquired - any charge in them will be lost. You can no longer reconsecrate beads to the same god; to remove a remember, for example, you will have to use the "scour" command.

(Custom beads in a wide variety of colours and materials can be bought from Gemma in the Temple of Small Gods, one floor up from the ground floor.)

Charging prayer beads
Beads are charged whenever they are held while faith GP is expended - e.g. performing rituals, praying, consecrating, ritual burying or even using Gapp's low altar.

Newly bought beads are uncharged and can safely be consecrated to your god if none are available in your temple. Note that consecrating beads to another god once charged to any extent will remove any charge that has previously been instilled into the item, they can however be reconsecrated to the same god (to remove a remembered place, for example). The beads can be used by anyone that worships the God that they have been consecrated to, whether they are charged by themselves or another. Once charged, beads do not lose charge unless they are consecrated to another god, and can even be vaulted without losing their charge.

The effects of charged beads are:

*An increase to wisdom of 1 when the beads are held after being charged to a little over 40% (Partway through 'bright').
*An increase to wisdom of 2 when the beads are held after being charged to 'radiant'.
*Acting as a substitute for holy symbols, holy amulets, and relics, whilst held or carried in your inventory. The prayer beads act as a substitute after a certain number of religious acts (rituals, prayers, etc) have been performed while holding the prayer beads.

The beads give off varying degrees of holy auras (which can only be observed by those of the faith) that give an indication as to the amount of guild points that have been instilled within them. The second part relates to the number of religious acts performed while holding the beads:

Starting from the time at which the first guild points are instilled up to fully charged at 5 million guild points, the progression of auras is as follows:
*pale, flickering
*weakly flickering
*flickering
*unsteady
*faint
*pale
*weak (holy symbol and amulet replacement)
*steady
*strong
*bright (holy symbol and amulet replacement; +1 wisdom when held)
*vibrant
*radiant (symbol, amulet and relic replacement; +2 wisdom when held)
*brilliant
*dazzling
*blazing
*blinding

These holy auras are not evenly spaced in terms of guild points needed to obtain each successive aura, being more exponential in nature. The diagram below gives some idea as to the scale involved (The listed auras being at the start of their respective ranges).

<br>
<br>(Diagram made by Warrax)<br>

After the prayer beads have reached the stage of bright it takes approximatley another 5000 gp until the beads give you the +1 Wisdom when held

As a rough guide, at 4 guild point per heartbeat regen the process of charging to 'radiant' takes roughly 21 hours, depending on lag, if all guild points are instilled into the beads. At the more normal 3 guild point regen this figure is closer to 28 hours.

Moving and clicking
One or more beads on prayer beads can also be "move"d or "click"ed around. This appears to involve a faith.rituals.special check but seems purely aesthetic with no functional use beyond counting prayers. Unholding the beads will reset the count.

This ritual is performed in a room which contains recently killed NPCs. The maximum number of spectres is not known, certainly 3 are possible. The spectres will equip the weapons and armour of the recently deceased from which they arose; this means you can put items on the corpse prior to using the ritual which you wish the spectre to use. They are quite strong, and can be "order"ed to assist or protect the priest in combat until they vanish or are damaged enough in combat that they can no longer remain. The life of a spectre can be prolonged by feeding it gp, but they cannot be healed. Quite heavy on gp drain, but useful as a young – mid level priest. Failing this ritual may cause a stat loss.
