Titles are used when someone uses the ‘who’ command in one of its forms, or using ‘refer laotzu’. They will appear after your name followed by the name of your god. For example: LaoTzu The Taoist the Prelate of Hat

Also available are pre-titles which go in front of your name. Besides the generic titles, available to players, every guild has its own special set of titles. As you advance in the guild, your religious instructor will provide you with special titles, such as "Brother", "Reverend" and "Holy". Ministers and High Priests also find that their positions are available as pre titles.

Your title will also be followed by other information, including a title of your choosing, a quest name and any other positions you may hold, e.g.

You are Minister LaoTzu The Taoist the Prelate of Hat, Enlightened, the leader of the-Way, Secretary to the High Priest of Hat, Coffee Bean.

__TOC__

Description
This ritual will give the priest a single glimpse of the location of the target, now including the exits from the room, which can be very useful. Unlike the crystal balls of old, it does not provide continuing descriptions of the target's actions. If successful, the target is not alerted in any way. It is however resistable, probably with de.se, and a failed attempt will be spotted by the target, though the perpetrator will not be revealed.

Incredibly useful in the pk world, it will not work if the target is hiding and you would not have the necessary perception to see them if you were in the same location.

Help File
<!-- If something in this "Help File" section needs changing, please also submit an in-game typo-rep, as this section should mirror the MUD's help file -->
Longsight gives you a vision of the room where the target is standing. It requires a holy symbol consecrated to your deity to perform.

Example
> perform longsight on sojan
You utter a quick prayer.
You cover your eyes.
You briefly see a vision.

This is a small, cramped room with a large, roaring fire blazing in the forge on the east wall of the room. There are
various assorted tools of metalwork scattered around the fire and hanging on the walls, most notably the anvil in the
centre of the room. The smithy is obviously very busy as there is a large, dirty order book lying open on a small desk
near the door.
There is one obvious exit: south.
Sojan, Baldwin the Disemboweler MacAvrik and Baldwin's apprentice are standing here.
A cash safe is in the wall and a piece of embroidered tartan is hanging on the wall.

When you detect and longsight attempt you see this message:
You feel a prickling sensation at the back of your neck, like someone is watching you.
Reconsecrating beads to the same god can be done (to remove a remember, for example).

(Custom beads in a wide variety of colours and materials can be bought from an npc in the Temple of Small Gods)

Charging prayer beads
Newly bought beads are uncharged and can safely be consecrated to your god if none are available in your temple. Note that consecrating beads to another god once charged to any extent will remove any charge that has previously been instilled into the item, they can however be reconsecrated to the same god (to remove a remembered place, for example). The beads are charged when they are involved in any invocation or prayer - that is, every faith guild point spent while holding the beads is transferred through the beads and adds to its total charge. The beads can be used by anyone that worships the God that they have been consecrated to, whether they are charged by themselves or another.

The effects of charged beads are:

*An increase to wisdom of 2 when the beads are held after being charged to 'radiant'.
*An increase to wisdom of 1 when the beads are held after being charged to a little over 40% (Partway through 'bright').
*Acting as a substitute for holy symbols, holy amulets, and relics, whilst held or carried in your inventory.

The beads give off varying degrees of holy auras (which can only be observed by those of the faith) that give an indication as to the amount of guild points that have been instilled within them. The second part of the description is merely a coarser indicator of the same information, with two of the differing levels of auras to each. The beads do not lose charge when they are vaulted or placed in some container.

It is surrounded by a strong holy aura instilled by the numerous invocations it has been involved in.

Starting from as soon as the first guild points are instilled up to fully charged at 5 million guild points, the progression of auras is as follows:

*pale, flickering
*weakly flickering
*flickering
*unsteady
*faint
*pale
*weak
*steady (holy symbol replacement)
*strong
*bright (holy symbol and amulet replacement)
*vibrant
*radiant (symbol, amulet and relic replacement)
*brilliant
*dazzling
*blazing
*blinding

These holy auras are not evenly spaced in terms of guild points needed to obtain each successive aura, being more exponential in nature. The diagram below gives some idea as to the scale involved (The listed auras being at the start of their respective ranges).

(Diagram made by Warrax)

As a rough guide, at 4 guild point per heartbeat regen the process of charging to 'radiant' takes roughly 21 hours, depending on lag, if all guild points are instilled into the beads. At the more normal 3 guild point regen this figure is closer to 28 hours.

Moving and clicking
One or more beads on prayer beads can also be "move"d or "click"ed around. This appears to involve a faith.rituals.special check but seems purely aesthetic with no functional use beyond counting prayers.

> click bead on latent beads
You move one bead around the set of worn onyx prayer beads with a fumbling motion of your fingers and a tremulous click.

Rehevkor: /* Pray */ lang edits

Priests receive several guild specific commands. Only one faith related command, pray, is available to all worshipers.

Pray
This will channel some, or all, of your guild points to your deity, reminding Him or Her of your existence and if you are out of alignment, moving you back towards His or Her satisfactory alignment. How effective your prayer will be in this is determined by your skill in faith.rituals.special, and it appears to be harder to succeed in praying the further away you are from ideal alignment.

If you are a priest, then the deity pool will get 10% of the gp spent.

If you do not want to spend all your gp on a pray, the options and approximate proportion of your current gp are:
*20% gp - pray gently
*40% gp - pray lengthily
*60% gp - pray vigorously
*80% gp - pray fervently
You need to pray at least 50gp, and praying to the wrong deity will leave you suffering their wrath for a time. You'll be unable to perform rituals and may have a stat loss.

You'll find it easier to perform rituals right after you prayed. Whether praying has long-term effect on rituals or not, has not yet been established. To be eligible for election to the High Priesthood, you also need to have prayed in the last 10 days or so.

The following pray messages have been gathered by Milly, Emiko and Jeanie, and are now somewhat outdated. The same pray gp no longer always gives the same message:

:<70gp
::You briefly bow your head and mutter a few quick words in praise of Pishe, Goddess of Slight Showers.
::Milly the milkmaid briefly bows her head and mutters something.
:70-120gp
::You spend a moment with your head bowed praising Pishe, Goddess of Slight Showers.
::Milly the milkmaid spends a moment in thought with her head bowed.
:120-190gp
::You lower yourself to your knees and silently offer up a short prayer to Pishe, Goddess of Slight Showers.
::Milly the milkmaid gets down on her knees and spends a short time in silence.
:190-270gp
::You quietly recite a lengthy hymn of praise to Pishe, Goddess of Slight Showers, while kneeling.
::Milly the milkmaid seems to spend some time talking to herself while kneeling.
:270-400gp
::You prostrate yourself on the ground and speak at some length to Pishe, Goddess of Slight Showers.
::Milly the milkmaid falls flat on her face and spends some time talking to the ground.
:400-551gp
::You prostrate yourself before the vision of Pishe, Goddess of Slight Showers, that appears before you and pray loudly and at great length.
::Milly the milkmaid prostrates herself and shouts praise to Pishe, Goddess of Slight Showers.

Burial commands
This will bury a corpse to the greater glory of your God. Like pray, this will move you into better standing with Him, and if you are out of alignment, it will bring you back towards your desired alignment. It costs 50gp to perform for each corpse, and how effective it is in changing alignment is determined by your faith.rituals.special. Multiple corpses can be buried at the same time in this fashion.

It is more effective in moving your alignment than pray (especially because you can perform multiple buries for the gp of one pray). The different gods get various commands, with different descriptions, but basically the effect is the same.

You can use this command whilst in combat, but unless you are a Sekkite it will be harder and take longer. It takes longer for a Sekkite to ritual bury if they are not in combat at the time.

You need to be at least guild level 25 to learn this command.

Bestow
This command allows you to put a ritual onto a faith rod. For more info, visit the Faith rods page. Bestow is learned by "worship"ing your god at your high altar with a guild level of 75 or higher.

Scour
This command allows you to remove a ritual from a faith rod, or a ward or remember place from an item. For more info, visit the Faith rods page. Scour is learned by "worship"ing your god at your high altar with a guild level of 75 or higher.

Consecrate
This consecrates an item to your deity, so it can be used for things such as Remember Place and Divine Guard/Divine Sentinel. This has to be done at the High altar of your deity or at the small altar at the entrance of the TOSG (read the room description carefully, it’s not very visible), and you will also need to be within alignment. It takes 50gps to consecrate an item, and you need to have at least 150 bonus in faith.rituals.special to attempt this. The command itself is learned at guild level 50.

Obsecrate
High Priests have a special command called obsecrate. With this command they can ask the deity to alter various things about the way deity points are spent. You can get rough details on the current setup with the Devout Inquisition ritual.

The things they can currently do are:

*Reduce ritual costs - up to 30% of ritual costs can be set to be shouldered by the deity point pool.
*Increase ritual costs by taking tithes - rituals can be made to cost 30% more than usual, with some of the surplus being put back in the deity point pool. An increase 10% on ritual costs equates to around 1% of gp being converting back into dp.
*Make rituals easier and better - self-explanatory really, this can chew up a large amount of dp, with a scale of 0 to 10 being available. A setting of 1 means around 10% of the gp spent on a ritual will be used up in deity points.

As usual, heretics are unaffected by all of this.

Meditate
The meditate command allows you to gain insights about rituals that you know or how you've interacted with the deity pool recently by entering a meditative state at one of your god's High Altars.

For rituals varying results in the amount of information returned indicate that a partial success will return correct information, just not complete information. Failure, on the other hand, means that you will immediately lose the ritual that you failed on and will have to visit your religious instructor again.

The syntax for meditation is "meditate on <ritual>" and this needs to be done at a High Altar to your god. Do not type "meditate" by itself as this will remove all known rituals from your mind which will then have to be relearnt.

Here is a full example of the messages received when meditating on Bless:

> meditate on bless
You kneel by the large plinth and begin to meditate.
You think back to how you were trained to perform Bless.
You emerge from your meditative state with some insights. Bless is a miscellaneous ritual with two
steps. It may be performed on other people and on yourself, and it consumes incense. It requires
the power of speech and the ability to move, and the target will not resist it.

It seems that the "and the target will not resist it" message is the last line that will be shown on all targeted rituals and lines similar to the "It requires the power of speech and the ability to move" message are the last line for the non-targeted rituals. If there is a chance of the target being angered by your ritual, and you have sufficient meditation skill, you will also receive an addition to this last line saying "and the target will be angered by this ritual". Note that there is no message given if the target will not be angered.

For the deity pool information, it is far more precise than Devout Inquisition as well as being usable by anyone. To use it, one must use the command "meditate on obsecration" at their god's high altar.
The result will be a set of figures detailing your use/contributions over the past few weeks.

Divine Sentinel stores the power of up to three rituals within an object, allowing a priest to protect it from theft. You need a holy symbol, some incense, a prayer book and a copy of "Impressions of the faithful" to perform this ritual. After you have performed this ritual on an item, you will need to "bestow" another ritual into it.

Example
> perform divine sentinel on baton
You prepare a dull grey baton for the upcoming ceremony.
You light the incense, while reading a litany from your prayer book.
You hold a dull grey baton up to the heavens.
Sandelfon watches the dull grey baton with interest, waiting for an impression.

> bestow agoraphobia on baton
You chant quietly, clutching the dull grey baton in your hands. You feel it take on a holy aura as the ritual of
agoraphobia moves to fill it.
The ritual agoraphobia is absorbed into the dull grey baton.
Jet Black Rod (3 slots)
(Good affinity for offensive rituals)

Four slot rods
Bronzed crook (4 slots)
This slightly-gnarled crook has an unpleasant sense of malign disapproval
about it. While its shaft is a rather unremarkable length of wood, its head
is an unusually abrupt and flat hook which looks, from some angles, rather
like a beak. It has been coated in gleaming bronze, and an impressive
collection of huge, grey and white feathers splay out and dangle from where
it connects to the rest of the crook.
It looks like it could hold four rituals in its base, shaft, feathers and
hook.
It is in excellent condition.

Tasseled staff (4 slots)
This rather cheery priest's staff is something of a colourful affair.
Although the plain wooden shaft is not particularly noteworthy, a majestic
bronze emblem gleams from atop of it, with several silk tassels, each dyed a
different vibrant colour, dangling from its extremities.
It looks like it could hold four rituals in its base, emblem, shaft and
tassels.
staff.
It is in excellent condition.

Blue lacquered staff (4 slots)
The length of this staff has been finished with a rich blue lacquer, whose
tones vary from a glimmering turquoise down to a rich, deep azure. At the
top of the staff, an oversized copper fishing hook has been fixed. While
the staff is obviously impractical for actually catching any fish with, the
hook nevertheless has a viciously sharp point.
It looks like it could hold four rituals in its base, shaft, point and hook.
The base is empty and is linked to the shaft.
The shaft is empty and is not dependent on any other part of the blue
lacquered staff.
It is in excellent condition.

Marble sceptre (4 slots)
This remarkably weighty sceptre is not your usual gaudy jewel-encrusted
monstrosity. Its shaft is simply a staff of solid oak, and its orb is a
skull-crushingly heavy sphere of marble, all swirling greys and smoothed to
perfection. About a foot's length of shaft beneath the orb has been
meticulously wrapped with red tape, adding a splash of colour to an
otherwise sombre affair.
It looks like it could hold four rituals in its base, tape, orb and shaft.
The base is empty and is linked to the shaft.
The tape is empty and is linked to the shaft.
sceptre.
It is in excellent condition.

Spiked black pole (4 slots)
As poles go, this one is pretty threatening. Its blackened metal length is
adorned with painful-looking ridges, making it difficult to hold
comfortably. Above a modest circlet of iron spikes, the pole is topped by a
seven-sided emblem, each point of which is decorated with a
finely-metalworked hand and a far cruder metal point, jutting away from the
centre of the sigil.
It looks like it could hold four rituals in its base, spikes, emblem and
shaft.
The base is empty and is linked to the shaft.
The spikes are empty and are linked to the shaft.
black pole.
It is in excellent condition.

Speckled grey staff (4 slots)
This rather unusual staff has been painted a very pale grey, with flecks of
slightly darker grey paint speckled along its length. At its top, three
heavy brass rings have been set through the centre of the shaft, so that
they clank against it and each other as the staff moves. A strange emblem,
with metalwork vaguely resembling cloud formations, crowns the deal, giving
it a suitably mystical air.
It looks like it could hold four rituals in its base, emblem, shaft and
rings.
The base is empty and is linked to the shaft.
The emblem is empty and is linked to the rings.
grey staff.
The rings are empty and are linked to the shaft.
It is in excellent condition.

Silver Flail (4 slots)
(Bad affinity for offensive rituals)
This weapon is comprised of a hefty shaft of wood, one end of which is connected via chains to three
large and polished silver balls. The other end of the shaft is wrapped in strips of leather to
allow its wielder to better grip onto it.
It looks like it could hold four rituals in its balls, grip, chains and shaft.
The balls are empty and are linked to the chains.
The grip is empty and is linked to the shaft.
This is a short wooden baton, the length of which is covered with ordered and angular religious etchings. While the baton itself has been painted
and varied religious etchings. While the baton itself has been left
angry-looking religious etchings. The baton has been dyed black, and has
crude hand saw.
swirling religious etchings. While the baton itself has been painted a
purest white, the etchings have been made to stand out with a subtle silver
scrawled religious etchings. While the baton itself has been painted a
purple colour, the etchings have been made to stand out with a rich golden
hue.
This is a short baton, the length of which is covered with roughly-carved
religious etchings. It has been carved from a single piece of coral,
presumably dredged from the clutches of some unsuspecting reef.
The etchings are empty and are not dependent on any other part of the coral
baton.
This is a priest's cane. It is a short length of wood, which curls at one end into a gentle circular hook. It is unpainted and left totally bare of any
decoration, but has given a smooth finish.

Wooden rod (3 slots)
This rod has been made of sturdy wood and given a smooth, shiny finish. It
has an odd air of generic piety about it, but is otherwise unremarkable.

Jet Black Rod (3 slots)
(Good affinity for offensive rituals)
This rod has been made of sturdy wood and painted jet black. It has an indescribable air of pious
malice about it, but is otherwise unremarkable.

It looks like it could hold four rituals in its base, emblem, shaft and
tassels.
staff.
The tassels are empty and are linked to the emblem.

It looks like it could hold four rituals in its base, spikes, emblem and
shaft.

It looks like it could hold four rituals in its base, emblem, shaft and
rings.
grey staff.

Dull grey baton (1 slot)
This is a short wooden baton, the length of which is covered with ordered and angular religious etchings. While the baton itself has been painted
a dull grey colour, the etchings make a half-hearted attempt to add a little colour with a pale grey hue.
It looks like it could hold one ritual in its etchings.
The etchings are imprinted with the ritual holy sacrifice and are not dependent on any other part of the dull grey baton.

Wooden baton (1 slot)
This is a short wooden baton, the length of which is covered with abstract
and varied religious etchings. While the baton itself has been left
This is a short wooden baton, the length of which is covered with spikey,
angry-looking religious etchings. The baton has been dyed black, and has
crude hand saw.
swirling religious etchings. While the baton itself has been painted a
purest white, the etchings have been made to stand out with a subtle silver
scrawled religious etchings. While the baton itself has been painted a
purple colour, the etchings have been made to stand out with a rich golden
hue.

Coral baton (1 slot, offensive affinity)
This is a short baton, the length of which is covered with roughly-carved
religious etchings. It has been carved from a single piece of coral,
presumably dredged from the clutches of some unsuspecting reef.
decoration, but has given a smooth finish.
It looks like it could hold two rituals in its hook and handle.
The hook is imbued with the ritual rage and is linked to the handle. It glows with a barely visible light.
The handle is imbued with the ritual paralysis and is not dependent on any other part of the wooden cane. It glows with a barely visible light.
skull-crushingly heavy sphere of marble, all swirling greys and smoothed to
The shaft is empty and is not dependent on any other part of the marble
It looks like it could hold four rituals in its base, spikes, emblem and
shaft.
black pole.

It looks like it could hold four rituals in its base, emblem, shaft and
rings.
