This is a page to collect information on what faith.items.rod bonuses you need to successfully hold and charge faith rods with various rituals in them.

It may be useful to distinguish between getting no message when charging (apart from the normal message you get from praying) and getting a message that your prayers flow into the rod easily or very easily, since these could indicate that different proportions of gp are actually going towards charging the rod.

Batons
Dark Sight:
Ribboned baton:
*195 it.ro bonus: can charge it with the "with ease" message most of the time (49 of 54 prays) and the "very easily" message the rest fo the time (5 of 54 prays).

Divine Hand:
Purple baton:
*286 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 80% of the time (16 successes out of 20 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message all/most of the time (15 of 15 prays).

Divine Sentinel:
Wooden baton:
*286 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 75% of the time (22 successes out of 30 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message most of the time (18 of 20 prays), and the "very easily" message the rest of the time (2 of 20 prays).

Fear:
Dull grey baton (Note:general baton):
*228 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 90% of the time (27 successes out of 30 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message all/most of the time (15 of 15 prays).

Fumble:
Coral baton:
*286 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 85% of the time (26 successes out of 30 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message about 80% of the time (12 of 15 prays), and the "very easily" message the rest of the time (3 of 15 prays).
Serrated baton:
*230 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 60% of the time (12 successes out of 20 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message about 80% of the time (12 of 15 prays), and the "very easily" message the rest of the time (3 of 15 prays).

Holy Insight:
Dull grey baton:
*201 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 3/4 of the time (19 successes out of 25 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message all/most of the time (15 of 15 prays).

Holy Sacrifice:
Ribboned baton:
*286 it.ro bonus: can hold it all/most of the time (13 successes out of 13 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message all/most of the time (10 of 10 prays).

Holy Weapon:
Coral baton:
*286 it.ro bonus: can hold it most of the time (24 successes out of 25 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message most of the time (15 of 16 prays) and the "very easily" message sometimes (1 of 16 prays).

Longsight:
Purple baton:
*181 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 85% of the time (17 successes out of 20 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message all of the time (15 of 15 prays).
*230 it.ro bonus: can hold it all/most of the time (19 successes out of 20 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message all of the time (15 of 15 prays).
Unknown baton:
*286 it.ro bonus: can hold it all/most of the time (15 successes out of 15 attempts). (Did not charge as it was already imprinted.)

Restore:
Pure white baton:
*323 it.ro bonus: can hold it all/most of the time (15 successes out of 15 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message about 80% of the time (16 of 20 prays), and the "very easily" message the rest of the time (4 of 20 prays).

Resurrect:
Pure white baton:
*316 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 26% of the time (9 successes out of 34 attempts).
*321 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 30% of the time (9 successes out of 30 attempts), and charge it with no message about 3/4 (23 of 30 prays) of the time (the rest of the time getting failure messages). Can hold it about 2/15 of the time (4 successes out of 30 attempts) when imprinted on a white baton:.
*337 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 4/15 of the time (8 successes out of 30 attempts) when imprinted, and charge it with no message nearly all of the time (charged to softly pulsing with one failure message, no message the rest of the time).
*345 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 1/3 of the time (10 successes out of 30 attempts) when imprinted.

Sparkling Shelter:
Pale yellow baton:
*286 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 85% of the time (25 successes out of 30 attempts), and charge it with the "with ease" message about 80% of the time (12 of 15 prays), and the "very easily" message about 20% of the time (3 of 15 prays).

Canes
Endless Halls + Feedback:
Orange cane
*286 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 12% of the time (4 successes out of 32 attempts, and can't seem to charge it at all (15 of 15 prays failed) beyond the initial prayer after bestowing.

Raise Dead Pet + Resurrect:
White cane
*353 it.ro bonus: can hold it about 75% of the time (3 successes out of 4 attempts). Although there is no baton-related message while praying, the baton is getting charged (slowly).
It takes about 65 gp to hold cane either successfully or unsuccessfully.

Charging messages
It's thought that different messages signify that some charge (though not the full amount) has been added; however, it's not really known how much charge gets added with these partial successes. Getting no baton-related message while praying over a baton is either a success or a partial success; it's entirely possible to get a baton to imprinted this way.
Success
*You find that your prayers flow into the white cane with ease.
*You find that your prayers flow into the purple baton very easily.
*You stumble over a prayer.
Partial success
*You have difficulty holding the forest green cane and praying at the same time.
*You stare at your rod as you pray, but your interest wanes and your focus slips.
*You shake the forest green cane as you pray, but most of the energy trickles out again.
*You manage to get tongue-tied as you hold the purple baton, losing track of your prayer.
*As you say a few words over your rod, you are caught in a moment of doubt. Is Sandelfon's rod perfect, or is worship blinding you to its flaws?

Failure
*For a moment, you are overwhelmed by the magnificence of the forest green cane and of Hat, leaving you speechless and staring at your rod.
*You fail to properly channel your prayers into the forest green cane.

Purpose
Prayer beads, once charged sufficiently, can be used in rituals instead of holy amulets, holy symbols and holy relics, reducing burden, inventory clutter and complication in performing rituals (you only have to have your beads to hand, not a whole host of holy components). Note that while beads must be held in order to charge them, they do not need to be held while performing rituals that require them - although they must be in your immediately accessible inventory (i.e. not in a container). They will be automatically retrieved from any container identified as a component pouch when needed for a ritual, and will remain in your carried inventory afterwards.

Cost
AM$50 from temple shops.

Also Found
Carried by no-one, although occasionally they can be found (sometimes even ready charged) in player shops. Beware of consecrating prayer beads to another god if they are not newly acquired - any charge in them will be lost. You can no longer reconsecrate beads to the same god; to remove a remember, for example, you will have to use the "scour" command.

Custom prayer beads in a wide variety of colours and materials can be bought from Gemma in the Temple of Small Gods, one floor up from the ground floor.

Charging prayer beads
Beads are charged whenever they are held while performing rituals, praying, consecrating, or ritual burying.

Repairing clothes on Gapp's altar, though it uses faith gp, does not add any charge to beads.

Newly bought beads are uncharged and can safely be consecrated to your god if none are available in your temple. Note that consecrating beads to another god once charged to any extent will remove any charge that has previously been instilled into the item, they can however be reconsecrated to the same god (to remove a remembered place, for example). The beads can be used by anyone that worships the God that they have been consecrated to, whether they are charged by themselves or another. Once charged, beads do not lose charge unless they are consecrated to another god, and can even be vaulted without losing their charge.

The effects of charged beads are:

*An increase to wisdom of 1 when the beads are held after being charged to a little over 40% (Partway through 'bright').
*An increase to wisdom of 2 when the beads are held after being charged to 'radiant'.
*Acting as a substitute for holy symbols, holy amulets, and relics, whilst held or carried in your inventory.

The beads give off varying degrees of holy auras (which can only be observed by those of the faith) that give an indication as to the amount of guild points that have been instilled within them.

Starting from the time at which the first guild points are instilled up to fully charged at 5 million guild points, the progression of auras is as follows:

After the prayer beads have reached the stage of bright it takes approximatley another 5000 gp until the beads give you the +1 Wisdom when held

As a rough guide, at 4 guild point per heartbeat regen the process of charging to 'radiant' takes roughly 21 hours, depending on lag, if all guild points are instilled into the beads. At the more normal 3 guild point regen this figure is closer to 28 hours.

Moving and clicking
One or more beads on prayer beads can also be "move"d or "click"ed around. This appears to involve a faith.rituals.special check but seems purely aesthetic with no functional use beyond counting prayers. Unholding the beads will reset the count.

Summons a whirlwind to fight on your behalf.

__TOC__

Description
Performing this ritual causes a whirlwind to form, its composition depending on where it is summoned (There are at least 350 different types, ranging from leaves, to cat fur, to metal fragments, to pure faith, to the good old dust devils). After recent changes, the number of devils you can summon has been capped on two. Trying to summon a second dust devil and failing may lead to the first dust devil slipping out of your control and dissipating. Dust devils will join you in combat as they will 'assist', and can also be "order"ed to attack. Doing so will cause you to become involved in the combat as well.

Dust devils reduce the amount of xp you will get from kills, though this may be countered by the ability you will have to kill things tougher and in less time. Dust devils are unable to protect and mediocre at dealing damage, so their use is limited.

The progression of the sizes is:
Tiny, small, average, large, huge, gigantic, colossal, enormous, humongous, and unbelievably large.

You can refer to a specific priest's dust devil by prefacing "devil" (or "whirlwind", "summon", "minion", "creature") with the priest's name.

This ritual summons a dust devil to follow your orders. It will attack if ordered, though not the servants of gods. It will not protect or defend the priest summoning it. A priest can only control two dust devils at a time. Performing this ritual requires use of a holy symbol consecrated to your deity.

Example
Base GP Cost
The gp cost depends

Forms of dust devils
As the name suggests: most of the time a dust devil will consist of, erm, dust. However, there are more than 100 different forms, and the following list is an attempt to record them - just in case you fancy a specific looking one, go to the location specified (some may be found in various locations. You might have to perform dust devil more than once on that location, as only every 2nd or 3rd performance of this ritual produces a "non-dust" dust devil.

Note that variations of the same dust devil to not seem to count multiple times towards the related achievements. For example creating ten whirlwinds different coloured fluff does not register as creating ten whirlwinds from different materials for the purposes of the achievment.

Help File
This ritual summons a dust devil to follow your orders. It will attack if ordered, though not the servants of gods. It will not protect or defend the priest summoning it. A priest can only control two dust devils at a time. Performing this ritual requires use of a holy symbol consecrated to your deity.

Example

Help File
This ritual summons a dust devil to follow your orders. It will attack if ordered, though not the servants of gods. It will not protect or defend the priest summoning it. A priest can only control two dust devils at a time. Performing this ritual requires use of a holy symbol consecrated to your deity.

Example

__TOC__
