Revision as of 22:38, 1 April 2012

Titles are used when someone uses the ‘who’ command in one of its forms, or using ‘refer laotzu’. They will appear after your name followed by the name of your god. For example: LaoTzu The Taoist the Prelate of Hat

Your title may also be followed by other information, such as a title of your choosing, a quest title, and any other positions you may hold, e.g. Minister LaoTzu The Taoist the Prelate of Hat, Enlightened, the leader of the-Way, Secretary to the High Priest of Hat, Coffee Bean.

Up to guild level 450, guild titles change automatically, and depend on your guild level (and potentially a few other things; see below). At guild level 450, when you get the final title, a religious instructor will teach the command "guildtitle", which lets you pick from any title on the list.

Heretics have entirely different titles at low levels. They still seem to be level-dependent, but with wider ranges. At higher levels, they just get additions in front of the usual titles; e.g., "defrocked Bishop" instead of "Bishop". These additions also change according to guild level (although, again, with wider ranges than the main titles). Finally, heretics get a replacement title for "Divine". It's unclear whether heretical titles and additions vary according to deity.

At guild level 350 and over (presumed), your guild title may get a special second part, which replaces "of <deity>". For example, instead of "Impassioned of Pishe", it could be "Impassioned of Pishe's Templars". These are still largely unknown, but apparently depend on non-faith skills in some manner (possibly, the skill tree your highest skill is in). If you have guildtitle, whatever special addition you have will appear in almost any title you choose, although some titles--"Divine of <deity>" and "Fish-Touched"--leave it out.

High priests and high priestesses have "the High Priest(ess) of <deity>" instead of all this. They can, however, see what their guild-level-dependent title would be by asking Rawrax about a hat.

Pre-Titles

Also available are pre-titles, which go in front of your name. The "title" command lets you set your pre-title, or see what pre-titles you have available. Besides the generic titles available to players (generally, "Miss", "Mr", "Mrs", and "Ms"), every guild has its own special set of titles. As you advance in the guild, your religious instructor will provide you with special titles, such as "Brother", "Reverend" and "Holy". Ministers and High Priests also find that they get pre titles related to their positions.

Guild-level based pre-titles:

49 Brother/Sister
100 Mostly reverend
150 Reverend
201 Blessed
220 Blessed father/mother
223 Blessed brother/sister
251 Venerable
261 Venerable brother/sister
271 Venerable father/mother
300 Holy
310 Holy brother/sister
403 Beatus
507 Saint

For high priests/priestesses:

High priest/priestess
His/Her eminence

For ministers:

Minister

Post-titles

On February 12, 2010, we got some new titles, replacing the old guild titles. Some of these depend on skills as well as guild level and some appear to be deity-specific.

From cinnamon's post on the Priests board:

These are the titles available to me from the guildtitle command. Some definitely look very Sekkite in nature, there's quite a few new ones, and I've already seen players of other deities with titles not on this list.

(Titles themselves listed in the Sek table.)

Full lists of normal post-titles have been obtained via the guildtitle command for Sek, Fish, Gufnork, and Sandelfon.

When adding new titles, or new levels, be aware that "score" takes some time to show your actual guild level after you've advanced, lagging behind your title. You may need to wait a minute or two for it to update.

One of the possible special additions is "of the Sandelfonic Templars", which replaces "of Sandelfon". It has been sighted at guild levels as low as 350.

Another special addition is "of the Sandelfonic Inquisition", which replaces "of Sandelfon". It has been sighted at guild levels as low as 350. It appears to have something to do with covert.manipulation.stealing, as it was gotten after advancing that skill.

  • 350-419: defrocked <title>
  • 420-449: scorned <title>

One of the possible special additions is "of the Drowned Men", which replaces "of Fish" in the title. It has been gotten at guild level 410 and over, and the other requirements are unknown. "Fish-Touched" and "Divine" override it. Thanks to women's day the female version is "of the Drowned Women."

"Fish-Touched" is not "of" anything.

A possible special addition is "of the Hattian Irregulars", which has been observed as low as gl 359. Another possible special addition appears to be "of the Unexpecteds", shown in conjunction with "Lay Elder".

Additionally, excommunicated priests have the title "Outcast" at guild level 168, and "Traitor to Hat" at guild level 200.

One of the possible special additions is "of the Sekkite Militant", which replaces "of Sek" in the title, with the exception of Divine of Sek which remains unchanged. There also appears to be an "of the Sekkite Magi" addition, possibly from magic skills.

Excommunicated priests get "Heretic" from guild level 101 to 150.

Combined

This is largely speculative, based on what the ranges appear to be (it may be inaccurate, but there's no specific reason to think it is). More will be added as titles for all priesthoods are known up to higher levels.

Heretical

Heretics have special titles, or additions to normal titles. The ranges for some of these are still unclear. The titles and ranges appear to vary by deity.
