Gives a very precise indication of the target's [[alignment]] in the form of the priest receiving a vision of a number of objects doing something in one of two colours or type of object, with the number representing the degree of alignment from 0 (neutral) to 50 (as good/evil as you can get) and the colour or type of object indicating whether the target is good or evil.  If the target is neutral, the priest's vision will indicate explicitly that nothing much has happened - '''this is not a failure'''.  The details of the vision are god-specific.  Additionally, the range possible numbers is much smaller when the priest has insufficient skills; the exact nature of this reduced range has not yet been fully explored.

Gives you a rough idea of a target's alignment.

Description

Gives a very precise indication of the target's alignment in the form of the priest receiving a vision of a number of objects doing something in one of two colours or type of object, with the number representing the degree of alignment from 0 (neutral) to 50 (as good/evil as you can get) and the colour or type of object indicating whether the target is good or evil. If the target is neutral, the priest's vision will indicate explicitly that nothing much has happened - this is not a failure. The details of the vision are god-specific. Additionally, the range of possible numbers is much smaller when the priest has insufficient skills; the exact nature of this reduced range has not yet been fully explored.

Per-God Varieties

God Object Type Degree Indicator Good Colour/Type Evil Colour/Type
Pishe Coloured drops from a vial Number of drops Gold Purple
Gufnork
Gapp
Sandelfon
Fish
Hat
Sek Coloured flares from a brazier Number of flares Silver Orange

Alignment Ranges

Alignment Range
Extremely Good/Evil 24 to 50
Very Good/Evil 12 to 23
Quite Good/Evil 6 to 11
Good/Evil 3 to 5
Barely Good/Evil 2
Neutral 0 to 1

There are rumours of an overlap in the ranges, where the same number may cover two separate textual alignments, but this has not yet been reliably observed.

Help File

The Detect Alignment ritual gives you an indication of the target's moral compass. Each god has a different way of expressing this, from mechanically precise to visceral and ritualistic.

Example

> perform detect alignment on taffyd
You recite the psalm of acquisition.
You speak the prayer of divination.
You close your eyes and indicate your desire to find out information about Taffyd.
Your eyes closed, you see Sandelfon, God of Corridors, sitting cross-legged by a complicated scale. On one side, there
is a feather, on the other a small clay statuette. As you watch, the scale slowly tilts one degree toward the feather.
