Makes a target become edgy and suspicious.

Description

This ritual causes the target to become edgy and suspicious of those around them, even those they would normally see as friendly. Has no real effect against NPCs beyond a few soul commands, its effect is to cause the target to see messages such as "Someone arrives from the west. Someone peeks at you". If the target is PK and there are other PKs in the area, then the messages may contain their names such as "Pinkfish tried to steal some Ankh-Morpork royals from you but you spotted him and protected your goods", potentially causing fights.

Sometimes a failure will cause the performer to flee (this only seems to happen with low skills).

Help File

This ritual makes the target see enemies around every corner, even making it look like perfectly friendly people are posing a threat. It requires a holy amulet consecrated to your god to perform.

Example

> perform haunting on Dasquian
You whisper trembling, fearful words.
You speak a calming prayer backwards.
You ask that Dasquian be granted great fear.
You sense that Dasquian has been filled with paranoia.

A critical failure:

> perform haunting on vulture

It seems quite a bit easier to perform haunting because you are in an area considered holy. However, this is somewhat negated by the fact that you are concentrating on controlling a large vulture.
You whisper trembling, fearful words.
You speak a calming prayer backwards.
You ask that a large vulture be granted great fear.
You feel a wave of fear hit you, sending you fleeing in terror.
You open the west door.
The temple vestry [e].
A religious instructor is standing here.
A bulletin board [ 47 notes ] is mounted on one wall, a membership rota is nailed to the wall and a sign is here.
A large vulture arrives from the east.
A large vulture succeeds in following you.
You close the iron door.
Your feet run away with you!
