Revision as of 00:28, 16 January 2012

Special thanks goes to Laule for the forty plus resses, and for messing up his alignment for the research.  :) And thanks also go to Baralai, Carasel, FraLipoLipi, Hurry, Nisphozous, and Vogue for resses, to Serakyo and Uheel for donating some data from their own resses, and to Chare, Vogue and Zph for dying for science.

This is an attempt at determining the relationships between cu.ta bonus, ritual modifiers, xp returned to the ghost, and xp awarded to the resser from the Resurrect ritual.

Main table of res data

Where xp returned is bolded, it's the precise amount (to within a few xp)--in other words, leaving out all xp received while dead. (Using a health bar plugin and making sure it's updating constantly during the res makes it fairly easy to see this.) Likewise, when res xp is bolded, it's the precise amount and doesn't include any command xp or heartbeat xp. Non-bolded amounts for both of those still have an attempt at not including command/heartbeat xp, but they may be off.

The "visible modifiers" in question are the ones you see when you perform the ritual--the message that goes, "You are finding it somewhat more difficult to perform resurrect because you can barely feel the presence of Pishe." and so on.

It's worth noting that the modifiers you start performing the ritual with seem to be the important ones--if it stops raining partway through the ritual, you still get the bonus.

All resurrectors are Pishite priests, unless otherwise noted. (Likewise, numeric alignments are degrees good unless otherwise noted.)

Xp return

  • Xp return (as a percentage) seems to depend purely on bonus and modifiers, not amount of xp the person died with, as a 450 bonus with no visible modifiers gets a 70% return on amounts from just over 26k, up to 30 million (the maximum xp someone can have).
  • A 458 bonus is enough to get the maximum return if a few ritual bonuses (high altar, and rain, and recently prayed) are applied.
  • A 476 bonus is enough to get the maximum return with one ritual bonus (being in the rain).
  • A 516 bonus is enough to get the maximum return even far from a high altar.

Pishite's xp

Res xp seems to be affected by the performer's xp rate, possibly in a similar manner to burial xp. Aside from this, the formula that res xp equals ((xp returned to ghost) ^ .78) fits well.

Res xp tables

This is a table of resses where both xp returned and the priest's res xp were fairly precisely known, and where the priest's xp rate wasn't high enough for there to be a penalty to res xp. (Alternatively, where 1)at least one of those was precisely know, 2)the slightly imprecise figure was enough xp that even an error of a few hundred would amount to less than a tenth of a percent, and the xp could be calculated to within a few hundred, and 3)the priest's xp rate wasn't high enough for a penalty. These have the "slightly doubtful" thing italicized.) I've separated out these data points as being the best to work from.

The last column is the log of the priest's res xp, in the base of (xp returned). In other words, the xp returned raised to the power of the number in that column equals the priest's res xp. This is rounded to three decimal places.

This next table is a table of all the resses that there is xp return and res xp data for. The data from Zexium's research here is included (these rows have a light grey background). Note that for these, I've used the (death xp * .75) number for the xp returned, on the assumptions that 1)a 75% return is indeed the maximum, 2)the resurrector would have gotten the maximum return (which should be the case with a 516 bonus), and 3)reported amounts of xp after being ressed may have included unknown amounts of heartbeat xp or shared xp from groupmates, accounting for the fact that most of those numbers are significantly higher than 75% of the reported death xp.

Rows where the resurrecting priest was known to have a high xp rate ("high" in this case means "definitely over at least 400k/hour") have a light blue background.

The final six columns present three different possible formulae for the priest's xp return, and the difference between that and the reported return.

  • The first formula is: res xp = (xp returned)^.78
  • The second formula is: res xp = ((death xp * 0.75) ^ 0.8 ) * 0.75. This is the one Zexium came up with.
  • The third formula is: res xp = ((xp returned) ^ 0.8 ) * 0.75. This is a variation on the one Zexium came up with, where (death xp * 0.75) is replaced with (xp returned). For bonuses at or past the cap, they should be the same.

All are truncated to the nearest xp.

Note: for means and medians, the absolute difference was used (to avoid having large negative differences balance out large positive differences).

Including all the resses...

  • The difference between the first formula's predicted res xp (xp returned ^ .78) and the reported res xp varies between -938 and 138236 xp. The mean difference is 3446. The median difference is 121.
  • For the second formula (Zexium's), the difference varies between -998 and 153092. The mean difference is 6276. The median difference is 745.
  • For the third (Zexium's, modified), the difference varies between -1419 and 149644. The mean difference is 4277. The median difference is 394.

Leaving out the known "high xp rate" resses (the blue ones), since the apparent penalty to res xp after a certain xp rate makes those the worst for this purpose...

  • For the first formula, the difference varies between -938 and 3627. The mean difference is 216. The median difference is 46.
  • For the second, the difference varies between -998 and 56829. The mean difference is 2877. The median difference is 443.
  • For the third, the difference varies between -1419 and 26155. The mean difference is 921. The median difference is 316.

The first formula therefore fits the observed data the best--it's the most successful at predicting res xp, with the lowest average (absolute) difference between the predicted value and the reported value, and the smallest range of differences.

Res xp vs xp rate

This is a table of resses where the priest's xp rate (before the res) was known (precisely or not). More precise xp return and res xp are bolded.

When a range, or less than/greater than a certain amount is given, it means the xp rate was deduced (from timing of numberchasing achievements being achieved, and/or from the resses being part of a set of many in a row, such that the least the priest's xp rate could have been was the sum of the res xp from all the resses in the last hour). Otherwise it was taken from the achievement progress in Good Day shortly beforehand.

The four light green rows are from Serakyo's data. The "xp returned" column for those is just 75% of the death xp, since he can get the cap and since the xp that was reported was just "post res xp" and included unknown amounts of heartbeat xp, shared xp from groupmates, etc. Res xp was expressed as before-and-after xp, from which I subtracted 4100 (guessed command + heartbeat). Xp rate was figured from the timestamps of the resses and his reported xp before and after--no resses were precisely an hour apart, so these are all approximate--especially the 44550 res, because the rate was only over the last thirteen minutes.
