This page contains an overview of all the joinable deities on Discworld. Each God has a short description stating his or her strong and weak point and which alignment they require. We will NOT give a rating to the different Gods. This is always subjective and we think you should make up you own mind, based on the alignment, the rituals granted or role-playing possibilities.

General Info

How to join the Priests Guild can be found in the newbie section. But first you should carefully consider which God you want to serve. Do you feel like fighting? Maybe you want to help people? Fond of fine clothes? All these things might influence your choice.

To make the decision a little easier, here's a list of factors that might influence your choice of a Supreme Being to Worship.

God Related Bonuses

Each God provides the opportunity to get an bonus in performing rituals, under special circumstances. These are:

  • Pishe: when outside in the rain, snow, or sleet
  • Gapp: when wearing enough (either three, or it varies) clothes of the right fashion ("finger gapp")
  • Gufnork: when carrying 7 fluffy items, or in a fluffy enough room (passage room, or a room with enough fluffy things/fluves on the ground)
  • Sandelfon: when indoors
  • Fish: when in the water
  • Hat: when in the company of 3 or more other priests (named priest npcs appear to count towards this), when at any high altar or other god's passage room, or when inebriated (appears to merely cancel out the penalty from being inebriated).
  • Sek: when in combat
  • All Gods: shortly after having prayed or buried a corpse using the ritual bury command. Duration appears to be defined by Faith.Rituals.Special bonus.
  • All Gods: when at your own high altar
  • All Gods: when close to a temple of your God

Guild Point Usage, and Modifiers

Quite recently, some priests have noticed a fluctuation in guild points used by rituals. Apparently some negative modifiers can increase the amount of guild points needed to perform a ritual. They also increase the difficulty of the ritual, making it harder to perform and less effective if it does succeed. These modifiers are

God-specific Rituals

Some gods will give their followers unique rituals that other priests won't get access to (until they can acquire a faith rod and a copy of the prayers needed, that is)

Deity Rituals
Pishe Resurrect, Raise Dead Pet, Heal, Restore, Soothing Rain
Gufnork Holy Aegis, Security Blanket, Summon Fluff
Gapp Holy Couturequisition, Mend
Sandelfon Demoralise, Endless Halls, Lost Highways
Fish Breathe Underwater, Celestial Anchor, Odiferous Wrath, Piscatorial Patulous, Sacred Fins
Hat Life of the Party, Parasitic Vision, Unwilling Host, Visit
Sek Creeping Doom, Paralysis, Profound Darkness, Rage

Thematic Variation

Each god will bestow upon you different versions of some shared rituals, as well as a different totem and burial command. How you interact with your chosen deity will also change depending on who your deity might be. For more information, see Thematic Variation.

Specific God Information

  • Pishe (as good as you can get - barely good)
  • Gufnork (quite good - neutral)
  • Gapp (quite good - neutral)
  • Sandelfon (barely good - barely evil)
  • Fish (neutral - evil)
  • Hat (neutral - quite evil)
  • Sek (barely evil - as evil as you can get)

Places of interest

Each deity has high altars and shops in a different set of locations (though each have high altars in Ankh-Morpork, Djelibeybi, and the red tower in Bes Pelargic (on the far east side of town, a bit north off the river)). If you already know which deity you'd like to worship, this will affect which starting areas will be easiest for you.

  • Ankh-Morpork: has the Temple of Small Gods and a high altar for every deity--most on the Street of Small Gods, the Pishe one in the Apothecary Gardens and the Fish one near the docks, just south of the river on the very west side of the city.
  • Bes Pelargic: has high altars for every deity in the red tower--near the imperial palace, just north of the river on the very east side of the city. There's also a Fish high altar, shop and advancement room in the shipwreck in Tuna Bay. The wandering charm peddler on Garden Walk sells symbols, prayer books, beads, amulets, and relics (of, it seems, whichever deity you worship).
  • Djelibeybi: has high altars for every deity except Pishe, all northwest of the bazaar.
  • Ephebe: has high altar for Pishe, on the east edge of the city on the south part of Petulia Avenue, Fish and Gapp temples in Harbour Market.
  • Genua: Has high altars for Hat (east side of the city, northwest corner of the docks) and Gapp (south part of the city, Darling Road).
  • The Ramtops: Has a high altar for Pishe, north of Lancre Town, south of Bad Ass, east of Mad Stoat, and very slightly west of the rugby pitch.
  • Ohulan Cutash: Has high altars for Gufnork and Sek in the south part of town, on Sinner's Walk.
  • Sto Lat: Has a high altar and instructor for Pishe in the park, somewhat hidden.
  • Temple of Cool: Has a Gapp shrine (no high altar) and a Gapp shop.
  • Slippery Hollow: Has a Hat shrine.
  • Copperhead Trading Post: Has a high altar for Sandelfon.
